For England's three-match Test series against the West Indies in March, temporary head coach Paul Collingwood has been appointed. Collingwood was working as an assistant coach to Chris Silverwood, who stepped down as England's head coach after England's 4-0 Ashes loss to Australia last week.
Apart from Silverwood, men's managing director Ashley Giles and batting coach Graham Thorpe both lost their jobs. When England lost the T20I series to the West Indies 3-2 last month, Collingwood took leadership of the team.
Collingwood, a former England all-rounder, is now on break before rejoining the England squad on February 25 in Antigua.
"I'm really looking forward to guiding the Test squad on their Caribbean tour. I'm excited to get started. After the disappointment of the Ashes, we have a challenging Test series against the West Indies, which gives us a chance to reset and rebuild "Collingwood stated.
Later this week, England's Test squad against the West Indies will be announced. They will play a four-day warm-up match on March 1 after arriving in Antigua, followed by the first Test on March 8 at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium. The second and third Tests will be placed in Barbados and Grenada, respectively, at Kensington Oval and National Cricket Stadium.
"The biggest achievement in cricket is to play Test matches for England. My goal is to provide players with clarity, guidance, and encouragement so that they can begin to build something unique. I spoke with Joe Root and Ben Stokes, and they are both happy and excited about leading the team ahead in this new phase "Collingwood, who led England to the Men's T20 World Cup win in 2010, agreed.
