After the second day of the continuing day-night Test in Adelaide, England has given another hit as Australia continues to win the Ashes 2021-22. After the first Test in Brisbane, England was fined 100% of their match fees and deducted five points for slow overrate. England has been fined eight points instead of five, according to the International Cricket Council.
England was found eight overs short of the mark at the end of the Test that ended in four days. "As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offenses, players are fined 20 percent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, up to a maximum fine of 100 percent of the match fee," the ICC said in a release.
Due to limitations, England was only fined 100% of their match fee after being eight overs short (rather than the five overs earlier announced). However, as per Clause 16.1.2 of the ICC Playing Conditions, the points deduction for penalty overs is not limited and must represent the actual number of penalty overs a team is short of the minimum requirement, therefore they have been punished one point for each over they were short."
England has collected 10 penalty overs in five Tests so far in the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23, and as a result, has lost ten points. With six points and a victory percentage of ten, they are now in the seventh position in the table. So far, they've lost three games, drawn one, and won one.
Each team is received 12 points for a win, 4 points for a draw, and 6 points for a tie.
