Australia scored a huge 388 in 49.2 overs after being put to bat first, led by a brilliant century from Travis Head, who was making his comeback to the team. He announced his arrival in the ODI World Cup 2023 in style as he scored the fastest hundred by a World Cup debutant off just 59 balls. He played a scintillating innings of 109 off 67 smashing ten fours and seven sixes in his innings.
In response, New Zealand was six runs short of their target despite having gone agonizingly close to chasing down the highest target in the tournament's history.
The Kiwis' top scorer, Rachin Ravindra, continued his incredible run throughout the competition and hit his second hundred of the tournament. Jimmy Neesham gave his side his all later in the innings with a stunning half-century, but he was unable to get them across the finish line.
