Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski, who had just won their first championship of the year in's-Hertogenbosch, overcame a difficult test on Wednesday to advance to the Cinch Championships quarterfinals.
The top seeds defeated Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic, the reigning champions, 6-7(3), 7-6(3), and 10-7 after a spirited struggle. Over the course of the one hour and 54 minute match, neither team encountered a break point.
The British-Dutch team will next compete against Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden, the winners of this year's ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells who overcame Jamie Murray and Michael Venus on Wednesday with scores of 7-6(8), 7-6(5).
