Lanka Premier League (LPL) will start on 3rd December 2021 the tournament will be played for three weeks with final to be played on 23rd December 2021.
All the matches in tournament will be played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.
In playoffs we will see the top-two teams in the points table facing off for the Qualifier 1 while the teams placed third and fourth will face each other in the Eliminator and the loser of Qualifier 1 will play the winner of the Eliminator in Qualifier 2 for a place in the final against the winner of Qualifier 1.
A reserve day have also been allocated this year for the final on December 24. This year's edition has reportedly seen 74 international cricketers register for the player draft including Imran Tahir, Mohammad Amir, Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Dawid Malan and Faf du Plessis, though this does not mean these players will necessarily play in the tournament that they have expressed their interest.
225 player applications have been approved for the player draft. Each of the five teams will be allowed a squad of 20 players, including six overseas players.
2020 edition of the Lanka Premier League was won by the Jaffna Stallions side. They beat the Galle Gladiators in the tournament and won the match by 53 runs a total of 188/6 on the board the Jaffna Stallions restricted their opposition to a total of just 135/9.
Danushka Gunathilaka was the highest run-scorer in the previous season of the Lanka Premier League Gunathilaka in 10 innings last year scored 476 runs at an average of 60 and a strike rate of 144.68.
Wanindu Hasaranga was the highest wicket-taker in the 2020 edition of the tournament. The spinner produced an excellent performance with the ball in hand and took 17 wickets in 10 matches at an average of just 11.29. He also won the Player of the Tournament award for his performance throughout the tournament.
