The President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly, stated on Thursday that a pink-ball Test will be played in Bengaluru as part of the two-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka.
After the white-ball series with the West Indies concludes on February 20 in Kolkata, India will host Sri Lanka for three Twenty20 Internationals and two Tests in late February and early March.
"The pink-ball Test will, indeed, take place in Bengaluru. We haven't finalized all of the Sri Lanka series' venues yet, but they will be announced soon "According to Ganguly.
It will be India's third pink-ball Test, following a match against Bangladesh in Kolkata in November 2019 and a match against England in Ahmedabad in February 2021. After Virat Kohli stepped down in January, India will have a new captain for the Tests against Sri Lanka.
Ganguly further confirmed that the IPL 2022 will take place in India unless a surge in Covid-19 cases upset the tournament. "Until and unless Covid-19 reaches new heights, it will be held in India this year. Throughout terms of venues, the matches will be held in Maharashtra, specifically in Mumbai and Pune. The venues for the knockout stages will be decided later."
He also announced that the women's T20 Challenge will take place in May this year. "This year's Women's T20 Challenge will take place in May. Hopefully, as the number of female players (player pool) grows, we will be able to host a larger women's IPL in the future. The Women's T20 Challenge, however, will take place during the IPL playoffs this year."
The selection committee, according to Ganguly, should decide on long-term captain possibilities. "Let's leave it to the selectors to decide. We'll follow whatever captaincy decision they make."
Despite Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, Navdeep Saini, fielding coach T. Dilip, Security Liaison Officer B Lokesh, and Sports Massage Therapist Rajeev Kumar testing positive for Covid-19, India will play the West Indies in the first of three One-Day Internationals in Ahmedabad on February 6. India will make their 1000th outing in the format in the first ODI on Sunday. Ganguly ended by pointing to the fact that fans were missing out on a historic event.
