India had to win the match because a win would have guaranteed the Men in Blue a spot in the semifinals. India defeated Bangladesh by five runs in a T20 World Cup match on Wednesday that was postponed due to rain.
India set a target of 185 runs while batting first, with half-centuries from KL Rahul and Virat Kohli, as well as a brief cameo from Ravichandran Ashwin. The second innings was shortened to 16 overs per side due to rain, but Litton Das had propelled Bangladesh to an excellent start before the weather stopped the game.
Virat Kohli and K L Rahul struck brilliant fiftys to lead India to 184/6 when they were asked to bat. Rahul, who had been under fire, got back on track with a 50 off 32 balls before Kohli grabbed control of the innings with an unbeaten 64 off 44 deliveries.
For Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud (3/47) was the bowler of choice. Following a minor rain delay, India held Bangladesh to 145/6 while defending a revised target of 151 in 16 overs. With a 60 in just 27 balls, Liton Das top scored for Bangladesh. For India, Arshdeep Singh (2/38) captured two wickets.
