At the Terra Wortmann Open on Tuesday, Alexander Zverev defeated Dominic Thiem with a dominant display. Both men had not played on a grass court since 2021.
At Halle's OWL Arena, home favourite Zverev won 6-3, 6-4 to advance to a second-round matchup with Denis Shapovalov. Zverev saved the lone break point he faced while serving beautifully, keeping Thiem under strain the entire match. The 26-year-old finished the match having won 85% (29/34) of the points behind his initial delivery.
Zverev improved to 4-8 in his ATP Head2Head matchup with Thiem after his 79-minute victory. In Halle, where he advanced to the final in 2016 (losing to Mayer) and 2017 (losing to Federer), the World No. 22 currently boasts a 13-6 record.
