Alexander Zverev didn't have it easy, but he stepped up when needed to reach the Roland Garros semi-finals for the third year in a row.
Zverev won 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Court Philippe-Chatrier in a heavy-hitting baseline duel against Tomas Martin Etcheverry, overcoming an offensive barrage from the Argentine.
The German improved to 28-7 in the clay-court major with his three-hour, 22-minute victory, and he advanced four spots to No. 23 in the Pepperstone ATP Live Rankings. Zverev will next face Casper Ruud or Holger Rune in his bid for his first major title.
